why I like football
1. well if you get to run the ball touchdowns are going to come your way and those are fun to get
2. the fans....I mean as a runningback you're one of the few actually noticed (don't get me wrong I'm not trying to brag I mean I wouldn't get anywhere without the team) but the fans will make you look like superman when all you do is what you are told
3. I like the hitting, even though I hate defense I like to hit

By observing nutcases as you call them,us, we can see the real person underneath the odd behavior.
Everyone has areas where they are lacking something...acceptance, praise, understanding, respect, friendship, etc...and often they act out in some oddball, unlikely way to try to get for themselves what they are missing....it frequently comes across as funny, dumb and funny, or just plain stupid as you said.
But in a sense, in a misguided way, they are seeking what they are missing.
If you can see the behaviors for what they are and glimpse the person beneath, sometimes, if you want to, you can help them by giving them a little of what they are missing.
Maybe just a friendly HI or maybe some respect by just hearing them and responding directly.
Of course, sometimes the best thing to do is just observe and leave them alone.
